Quickie by Stephen Marlowe

In a future America where multiple marriages are legal, normalized, and managed through a bureaucratic Marriage Building, Simon Grover races to stay ahead of the police and the demands of a restless society. A charming "Transient," he seems to be seeking a wife, but his anxious urgency suggests a riskier, more secretive purpose. The world around him treats romance like an organized civic function, complete with counselors and six standardized wife types designed to suit every stage of family life. When Simon is matched with the young newlywed Jane-Marie Paige, the story shifts into a tense blend of satire, domestic comedy, and sexual intrigue. At her suburban home, an elegant dinner and cozy fire mask Simon's real agenda: to win her trust, probe the logic of legalized multiple marriage, and uncover what lies beneath this efficient system of temporary devotion. As he steers their conversation toward monogamy and rebellion, the novel reveals a society where desire has been institutionalized, infidelity is obsolete, and constant change has become the official path to happiness.
