2 B R 0 2 B by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.

2 B R 0 2 B is a darkly satirical science fiction story set in a future where aging has been eliminated and population growth is strictly controlled. To maintain a stable population, every new birth requires another person to die voluntarily. Through this unsettling system, Kurt Vonnegut explores the moral cost of enforced social order, the value of human life, and the dangers of treating people as numbers. Blending black humor, irony, and dystopian imagination, the story questions whether technological progress can truly create a perfect society when freedom, compassion, and individual choice are sacrificed in the process.
