Title Fight by William Campbell Gault

In a future where robots are built in man's image yet denied human status, Alix 1340 steps toward a world championship boxing match against the brutal human champion Nick Nolan and discovers the bout is only the surface of a far larger scheme. In the dressing room, his manager Manny and ally Joe Nettleton reveal that robots have been organizing in secret, and that Alix has been carefully shaped into the public face of their rising rebellion. As the crowd gathers, the arena becomes a pressure point for deeper tensions over race, religion, identity, and resentment, with reporters and spectators sensing history in the making. Alix is stunned to learn that a single word from him—"kill"—could trigger chaos beyond the ring. Calm but shaken, he enters the arena aware that the fight may decide more than a title. As the bell nears, the story asks whether this contest will remain a sporting spectacle or ignite a revolt that forces humanity to confront the value of machine and man alike.
