Something Wicked This Way Comes to Brunch by Raven Ashcombe

The season one finale of the Moonvale saga has arrived — and so have the Thistlewoods.

Fern Calloway has spent a year learning to call Moonvale home. She inherited her great-aunt's spell shop, accidentally hexed the building inspector, cursed the sheriff into radical honesty, enchanted an entire town at the Harvest Blessing, opened a haunted bed and breakfast, and somehow survived all of it. Now the Founding Celebration is three days away, the whole coven is in the square hanging bunting, and everything is almost — almost — peaceful. Then the Thistlewoods roll into town.

Led by the guarded, formal, and absolutely not-a-villain matriarch Agatha Thistlewood, the family has not set foot in Moonvale for generations. They carry a centuries-old grievance rooted in a star-crossed romance between a Calloway and a Thistlewood that ended in family interference and heartbreak — the same unfinished history Marigold Calloway referenced in a ledger entry Fern found her first week in town. The arrival is not a cold introduction. Hazel's reaction to a Thistlewood vendor in Book 3 already told the reader something was coming.

As the Founding Celebration unfolds, Fern pieces together two halves of one truth: Ambrose's partial revelation that Marigold left on purpose, and Agatha's family account of what the Thistlewoods have been carrying. Together, they reveal that Marigold is alive — bound by her own working, hidden in plain sight, waiting for the day the two families could choose reconciliation freely. Fern is the one who finally brings them to the same table.

In the same emotional climax, Fern stops pushing the people who love her away. Graham Whitlock — present in the background since book one, carrying Marigold's cedar box for fifteen years without knowing why — returns fully to the foreground. Their reunion completes the romantic arc the whole series has been building toward.

Cozy, witchy, warm, and ending exactly where it began: a clumsy witch, a kind man, and a town that has decided to keep her.
