Savage by Nicole Deliz

"I am the monster who hunts monsters. This is my life."

In New York City, the supernatural world is not a secret. It is regulated. Vampires have sects. Witches have covens. Werewolves have packs. And when monsters break the law, the NYPD's Supernatural Crimes Division sends Detective Maria Villalobos. Maria is a born werewolf, packless by choice, and the SCD's most effective weapon. She reads crime scenes by scent, tracks killers that leave no human footprints, and keeps her inner beast under control when the moon rises. Most days, that is enough to keep the city breathing.

Until the Alpha of New York's werewolf pack is found brutally murdered in his own home.

The killing rattles every supernatural faction in the city. Jason Calder, the Alpha's firstborn son and pack enforcer, demands answers before his father's death ignites a war. But Jason is also the obvious suspect. He has the reputation, the temper, and the motive. As Maria digs deeper, the bodies begin to pile up. The wounds are ritualistic. The magic feels wrong. Whatever is killing is not driven by revenge or ambition. It is older than the city—and far more dangerous. Pulled into supernatural politics, Maria crosses paths with Rohan Singh, a master vampire whose interest in the murders runs deeper than he admits.

And the closer Maria gets to the truth, the clearer it becomes: The killer isn't just hunting power. It's hunting monsters.

Including her.
