Fear Gorta: The Hunger Ghost by Stephen Myler

The story opens in a rural Irish village already weakened by poor harvests. The earth feels exhausted, the sky heavy with unfallen rain. Families ration their last potatoes, hoping for relief that never comes. Livestock die, fields rot, and the village's once‑lively gatherings fall silent. Fear spreads faster than hunger. The elders whisper that famine is not merely misfortune but a sign that something ancient has awakened. As desperation grows, the villagers begin to turn inward, hoarding what little they have. The stage is set for the arrival of a figure who embodies hunger itself.
