Building Intelligent Processes by Steve Millan

Modern IT is no longer about managing systems manually. It is about designing systems that manage themselves.

As organizations scale, complexity grows faster than human capacity. Servers, APIs, data pipelines, applications, security layers, and cloud environments generate constant signals, alerts, and dependencies. Traditional operations teams can no longer rely on manual oversight alone.

Building Intelligent Processes explores how artificial intelligence and automation are transforming IT operations from reactive maintenance into proactive, self-improving systems.

This book provides a practical framework for designing workflows where intelligence is embedded directly into processes—not added as an afterthought.

Inside this book, you’ll discover how to:

Design IT operations that reduce manual intervention through intelligent automation.

Build systems that detect, diagnose, and resolve issues with minimal human input.

Integrate AI into monitoring, incident response, and performance optimization.

Transform static workflows into adaptive, self-improving processes.

Use data-driven automation to improve reliability and uptime.

Apply modern DevOps and MLOps principles to intelligent infrastructure.

Balance automation with human oversight for critical decision points.

Create scalable operational systems that evolve with organizational needs.

Rather than treating AI as a separate tool, this book shows how to embed intelligence directly into the operational layer of technology systems.

The goal is not just efficiency—it is autonomy.

The future of IT operations is not more dashboards or more alerts.

It is intelligent processes that reduce noise, resolve friction, and keep systems running with minimal intervention.

The next generation of infrastructure will not just be managed. It will be engineered to manage itself.
