Buried Current by Georgia M. Martin

Maren Osei swore she'd never come back to Cedar Hollow. Not after the newsroom that fired her, not after the story that got her blacklisted, and certainly not after the phone call that told her that her sister was dead — a boating accident, they said. Convenient. Tidy. Wrong. Three weeks into her own investigation, Maren has a burner laptop full of tide charts that don't add up, a growing list of "accidents" tied to the same stretch of coastline, and exactly one person in town who seems to be watching her as closely as she's watching everyone else. Beckett Marsh showed up in Cedar Hollow the same week Maren did, taking over the harbor master's office like he'd always belonged there. He hasn't. Beckett is former military, currently under contract to find out why a federal agent went dark investigating the town's biggest employer — and why that agent's last message mentioned a name Maren's sister used to say at dinner. Neither of them is who they're pretending to be. Both of them are running out of time before Cedar Hollow's most powerful family finishes covering up what's buried under the water — and before whoever silenced Maren's sister decides two reporters asking the same questions is one too many. As the accidents stop looking accidental and the deadline to a company sale draws close enough to taste, Maren and Beckett have to decide how much truth they can survive telling each other — and whether trusting a stranger with secrets of his own might be the only way either of them makes it to shore. Fast-paced, twisty, and edge-of-your-seat, with a slow-burn romance that catches fire exactly when the danger does. Tropes: Secrets & Hidden Identity, Small-Town Suspense, Forced Proximity, Investigation Romance, Slow Burn, Only One Bed
