Your Emergency Is Not My Assignment by Matthew Petchinsky

Some people become the automatic emergency contact for everyone else's problems-and eventually forget that their own life deserves protection too. Your Emergency Is Not My Assignment is a practical guide for anyone who is exhausted from constantly fixing, rescuing, paying, organizing, calming, and cleaning up consequences they did not create.

This book helps readers recognize rescue patterns, separate genuine emergencies from manufactured urgency, and understand where compassion ends and inappropriate responsibility begins. Through clear guidance, responsibility tests, boundary strategies, and reflective exercises, readers learn how to stop making every phone call, covering every financial shortfall, absorbing emotional pressure, and sacrificing their own priorities for capable adults who can participate in solving their own problems.

You will learn how to handle guilt, anger, family pressure, catastrophic predictions, repeated preventable crises, and the fear that saying no makes you selfish. You will also create a personal emergency policy that defines what deserves your involvement, what support you are willing to provide, and where your responsibility ends.

This is not a book about becoming uncaring. It is about helping without disappearing.

Care deeply. Respond wisely. Support when appropriate. But stop living as everyone else's emergency department and reclaim ownership of your own life.
