Between the Stops

Sometimes the most unexpected journeys begin on an ordinary night.

Ananya Rao is used to navigating New York City alone—late nights, demanding creative work, complicated family expectations, and a life she has carefully built far from the home her parents left behind. Then, on a rainy night aboard the nearly empty M15 bus, she meets Lucas.

He is a quiet architect with a worn sketchbook, a complicated family, and grief he has carried silently since his sister's death. Their first meeting is brief, almost accidental. But when they find themselves sitting across from each other again a few nights later, something begins to change.

Soon, the bus rides become intentional. Conversations stretch beyond the final stop. Coffee turns into walks, walks become shared secrets, and two strangers slowly become something neither expected. Ananya discovers the man behind Lucas's reserved exterior, while Lucas begins drawing again after months of believing he had lost the part of himself that made him feel alive.

But falling in love does not make their lives simpler.

Ananya must confront the expectations of her family and the future they once imagined for her. Lucas must decide whether he will continue living according to his father's demands or finally choose a life of his own. And when old relationships, family pressure, jealousy, and painful secrets threaten what they have built, both must decide how much they are willing to risk for love.

Set against the rain-soaked streets, late-night buses, cafés, apartments, and restless neighborhoods of New York City, Between the Stops is a contemporary romance about unexpected connections, grief, independence, family expectations, and the courage to choose your own happiness.

Because sometimes, the person who changes your life is not someone you were looking for.

Sometimes, they're simply the stranger sitting across the aisle.
