Your child used to tell you everything. Now they say "fine."
The bedroom door starts closing. Sentences shrink to single syllables. The friend who's been at every birthday since pre-school suddenly isn't returning calls. And the daughter or son you thought you knew is becoming someone you barely recognise — right at the moment they need you most.
This isn't a problem with your relationship. It's a developmental event — and it happens in a specific eighteen-month window most parenting books skip.
THE BRIDGE YEARS
The transition from primary to high school is the steepest developmental jump your child will make until adulthood. Friendships dissolve. Identity destabilises. Communication shuts down. Eighty per cent of what worked as a parent last year stops working in the same year — and most parenting books are written either for younger children or for full teenagers. Almost nothing is written for this exact window.
The Bridge is the book for this window. It names what's happening — and gives you the eleven specific things to know, the scripts to use, and the moves to make in the eighteen months on either side of the most disorienting transition of your child's life so far.

WHAT YOU'LL ALSO FIND INSIDE
+ The B.R.I.D.G.E. Method — the eleven-part framework that turns every chapter into a specific move, not just a concept.
+ Real scripts at the end of every chapter — the exact phrases to use when they come home quiet, when they say "I'm fine" and clearly aren't, when they ask if you're disappointed in them.
+ The 5-Minute Version of every chapter — the whole thing on a single page, for the days you don't have the energy to read more.
+ The Family Bridge Agreement — the actual document you can adapt for your house.
WRITTEN FOR THE PARENT WHO IS IN IT RIGHT NOW
Ava Jenkins is the founder of Raising Thinkers and a mother of an eleven-year-old daughter starting Year 7 in February. Everything in this book has been tested in her own house, in real time, with a real eleven-year-old at the end of it. No theory. No "expert distance." Just the words, the framework, and the moves she wishes someone had handed her three years ago.
Before your child starts high school. Read this first.
