Tropical Scandal by David Myles Robinson

“The Pancho McMartin Legal Thrillers, set in Hawaii, are smart, witty, suspenseful page-turners… highly recommended.”—Robert Westbrook author of the Howard Moon Deer Mysteries Pancho McMartin is back in Tropical Scandal, David Myles Robinson’s fifth book in his award-winning legal thriller series set in Honolulu, Hawaii. As with the rest of the books in this series, Pancho’s legal exploits will leave the readers spellbound from the beginning to the end. When an aging, iconic Hawaii attorney cajoles Pancho into taking over a client he can no longer represent due to health issues, Pancho doesn’t realize he will soon be immersed in a murder trial in which his client, Dayton Kalama, who appears to be mentally slow, is accused of killing his beloved grandmother (tutu wahine). Dayton is an admitted drug mule with little knowledge about who he is working for. The evidence is stacked against him as Pancho and his trusty investigator, Drew Tulafono, work relentlessly to prove the innocence of the young, unfortunate man they have come to believe in. As they peel back layer after layer of corruption and crime, the two become more and more shocked at what is slowly revealed. Robinson’s decades as a trial attorney in Honolulu and his intimate knowledge of his long-time home gives the readers a feel not just for the judicial system, but also a special glimpse of the islands as the story weaves through local settings.
