Rejection

A text comes back a beat too slow, and the floor drops out from under you.

If a flat reply, a word of criticism, or a friend's distracted hello can flood you with shame, rage, or despair far out of proportion to whatever set it off, the problem is not that you are too sensitive as some flaw of character. You are most likely living with rejection sensitive dysphoria, a nervous system tuned so finely to the threat of rejection that the smallest slight lands like a physical wound.

It is common in ADHD and autistic minds, in people raised on criticism, and in anyone carrying an anxious heart. Once you understand what is actually happening, most of what has felt insane about your own reactions starts to make sense.

Rejection is a clear, compassionate guide for the touch-me-not mind, and it moves in three stages, from understanding to relief.

The Flinch: what rejection sensitive dysphoria really is, why a small slight can feel like catastrophe, and the brain science of why social rejection genuinely hurts.

The Pause: how to catch the spike in its first seconds, settle your body before the spiral takes the wheel, and reality-test the stories your mind writes at speed.

The Return: how to take feedback without falling apart, repair after a reaction, tell the people you trust, and rebuild love, work, and self-trust, including how to stop people-pleasing and preemptively rejecting others before they can reject you.

You get fifteen concrete practices, not affirmations but step-by-step instructions for the moments a feeling tries to run your life.

Grounded in William Dodson's work on RSD, the social-pain research of Eisenberger and Lieberman, and Kristin Neff's science of self-compassion, this is a book for everyone who was ever told they were too sensitive, as if that were the problem and not the gift.

The goal was never to stop feeling. It is to feel without being run by it. You can start the first practice today.
