The Gathering Shed by Rebecca Byler

Can a journey back home lead to true belonging, or are some paths meant to remain in the past?

In "The Gathering Shed," the third compelling installment of the "Returning to The Fold" series, Jemima Fairfax stands on the precipice of a community torn between tradition and change. As the sun rises over the Fairfax Greenhouse, Jemima returns to her Amish roots, seeking redemption and acceptance in a world she was once part of but no longer fully knows.

Amidst whispers and judgments, Jemima must navigate a landscape where steadfast devotion collides with the need for understanding. The Plain community's dirt lanes and horse traffic reflect a life of simplicity, yet Jemima's return from the bustling East Coast ignites suspicion. Proposals for modernizing the milk delivery system become a battleground, with Jemima caught between Hiram Yoder's strict adherence to tradition and her own vision of progress.

As alliances shift like sand, Jemima finds unexpected allies and formidable foes. Henrik Lapp's cautious support and Tabitha Weaver's enigmatic offers of help force Jemima to confront both her past decisions and the community's growing unease. With the Fairfax Greenhouse under the scrutiny of a looming inspection and the future of the Monday Horse Sale hanging in the balance, Jemima must decide where her true loyalties lie.

Will Jemima's faith and resilience be enough to mend the fractures of her community, or will the cost of silence prove too great? The storm of judgment and doubt threatens to overshadow her journey, but with unwavering allies like Nathaniel Stone and Elias Zimmerman, Jemima discovers that true faith often thrives through struggle.

In a world where belonging is tested in ordinary labor and public discernment, "The Gathering Shed" explores the profound question of whether one can truly return home—or if homes, and the hearts within them, must change with us. Join Jemima as she discovers that the path to forgiveness and community is fraught with challenges, yet undeniably worth pursuing.
