The Last Door of Edgar Allan Poe by K.G. Groves

What if Edgar Allan Poe's darkest stories were not inventions, but places he survived?

At sixteen, Edgar hears a bell ringing inside a wall where no bell exists. Soon he discovers impossible doors, altered rooms, doubles wearing his face, black seas, strange ciphers, and a world that seems to know his writing before he has written it.

As Poe moves through the real milestones of his life, Richmond, the University of Virginia, the Army, West Point, Philadelphia, New York, marriage, grief, literary fame, and loss, the boundary between author and creation begins to collapse.

His stories are not separate.

They are pieces of one world.

And every reader who remembers them gives that world greater power.

By 1849, Poe faces a final mystery hidden inside the unexplained days before his death. To solve it, he must discover whether an author owns what he creates, or becomes responsible for what creation does after it leaves his hands.

The author's note confirms the governing rule: preserve the documented historical record where possible and place the fictional secret history inside the gaps, disputes, aliases, revisions, missing documents, and unresolved episodes of Poe's life.
