Second Chances by Julie Hodgson

When career-driven celebrity journalist Daisy finally agrees to a holiday with her long-suffering husband, Ethan, he believes that they will have the opportunity to relax and rekindle their strained relationship. His hopes are shattered when he discovers that she only chose the remote, Scottish coastal town of Banff because of a tip-off about a celebrity-in-hiding above a tiny café there – Purple Moons and Coffee Spoons. So determined to get the exclusive and further her career, she barely notices when he packs his bags and leaves her. Oblivious, Daisy begins her vigil of the café, but Purple Moons and Coffee Spoons is no ordinary eatery. Mrs Friendly may serve the biggest, best scones in the country and the richest, smoothest coffee, but a secret lingers behind the façade of baked goods and bookshelves. Dead authors are stirred back to life here by the chosen few, and they come with great demands ... but also gifts of incredible healing. Daisy is determined not to let a little thing like writers returning from the dead stand in the way of her exclusive, until she is forced to play their game. Her search for the celebrity interview then evolves into a never-ending meet and greet with the dead ... and she has little time for any of them: a colour-challenged artist, a reformed suicidal goth, the biggest rock star of them all, the sunset-loving gardener again, even Oscar Wilde himself ... What lies ahead will test Daisy's last impatient nerve but challenge her to re-evaluate her life – and the precious things that she had lost – in a way that she has never dared before.
