The Cat of Bubastes by G. A. Henty

Set in ancient Egypt under Thotmes III, The Cat of Bubastes blends vivid historical detail with a tense adventure of war, captivity, and survival. G. A. Henty recreates the daily life, customs, and religious beliefs of the age, from the sacred reverence for cats to the harsh realities of conquest, while opening against the backdrop of a disputed biblical era and a sweeping clash of armies. At the center is Amuba, young prince of the Rebu, eager for battle as his people face the might of Egypt on the marshy plains near the Caspian. As his father prepares a desperate defense, the two study the battlefield, the enemy's formations, and the likely outcome of a night of waiting before dawn's निर्णायक assault. When combat begins, Egyptian discipline, archery, and engineering steadily overwhelm the Rebu, leading to a brutal melee of chariots, spears, and collapsing lines. Amid the wider conflict, a separate crisis erupts in Egypt when Chebron accidentally kills a sacred cat, bringing terror to his household and setting in motion another perilous thread of fate. Courage, duty, religion, and the danger of royal power drive this fast-moving historical tale. This edition has been fully restored with modern typesetting, custom cover design.
