Enough

It is the middle of the night, and you are doing the math again.

The number is not catastrophic. You have a job. You pay your bills. And still the fear shows up, fully formed and certain: this time you will not make it.

Enough is for the millions of people whose minds turn every ordinary expense into an emergency. The ones who check the balance ten times a day, or cannot bear to look at all. Who spend to soothe the ache and then drown in the guilt. Who keep score against everyone and always come up short. Who earn more every year and feel exactly as afraid as they did at the bottom.

This is not a budgeting book, and it is not about getting rich. It is about the anxiety itself, the nervous-system alarm that reads ordinary financial life as constant catastrophe, so that no balance is ever high enough to let you breathe out. The bills are real. The fear is real. It is only the conclusion, that more is the one thing that will ever make you safe, that turns out, most of the time, to be false.

Over fifteen chapters and fifteen practices, Robert Smith maps the scarcity spiral from the inside and lays out the slow, learnable work of turning the alarm down, drawing on the research into the psychology of money, scarcity, and uncertainty, and written for the person awake at 3 a.m. doing the math in the dark.

Inside:

- Why a raise quiets the fear for only a month, and what the moving goalpost is really about - How checking, avoiding, comparing, and emotional spending keep the spiral alive - Where your money fear actually comes from, the childhood scripts you inherited without consent - How to separate your net worth from your self-worth, and end the secrecy and shame - The daily practice: facing the numbers calmly, settling the body before decisions, and building a floor you can feel under your feet

Direct, literary, and on your side. A book about arriving, finally, at enough.
