The Bud and the Dawn by Naran, Sarnai

The Bud and the Dawn
Book One of The Wolf's Daughter Series

Naran is eighteen and has never been in Ulaanbaatar. She arrives in September with one bag, a bracelet her mother braided, and a place at the law faculty.

Sarnai is nineteen, born in the city, and has been assigned to her. Forty hours of mentoring, logged and signed off by December. Nine items on the list: the bus routes, the canteen card, which stairwell not to use.

Both of them keep a diary. Neither knows the other is writing.

What follows is one year, in two notebooks kept three doors apart. The same corridor, the same table, the same forty minutes across a cold city, recorded twice, by two women who are almost never wrong about anything except each other.

A novel about what it costs to say nothing.
