A Name Without A Body by Franz Lusike Voetmann

A murdered woman has a name. The problem is, the name belongs to someone else.

When Detective Inspector Mara Venn is called to a stairwell in Edinburgh, the case should be straightforward: identify the victim, establish a timeline, find the killer.

But the official records tell a different story.

The dead woman has been assigned an identity that does not belong to her. A supposedly deceased woman may still be alive. Archived statements have been altered. And every attempt to correct the record seems to uncover another layer of a system designed to preserve identities long after the people behind them have disappeared.

For Mara, the investigation soon becomes personal. Thirteen years earlier, she signed a statement she knew had been changed. Now that compromise is tied to the same network she is trying to expose.

As witnesses vanish, evidence is manipulated, and more bodies surface, Mara must decide how much she is prepared to sacrifice to uncover the truth.

Because in a system built to trust records over people, the most dangerous thing a person can become is a name without a body.

A Name Without a Body is a dark, atmospheric police procedural and psychological crime thriller set in Edinburgh, combining murder investigation, institutional conspiracy, stolen identities, and a detective forced to confront the mistake she thought she had buried.
