La Grieta (The Rift) by Joan Vallverdú Guillén

When a glowing fracture suddenly appears in the sky over Sabadell, no one imagines it will mark the beginning of the end. At first, it is just a strange light. Then come the disappearances. And finally, the collapse of everything that once felt safe.

María Belmonte, a hardworking mother of three, sees her world shatter when her daughter Paula vanishes without a trace. As the investigation unfolds, clues become contradictions, witnesses change their stories, and suspicion falls dangerously close to home: Juan Belmonte, a security guard with a hidden past.

As the city descends into chaos-riots, panic, and deadly bursts of light coming from the Rift-María and Juan are forced to work together to survive and uncover the truth. Inspector Susana López fights to maintain order, while Sub-inspector Ángel Martínez becomes obsessed with proving Juan's guilt. But what is happening in the sky is far from a natural phenomenon: it is a human-made breach between planes, growing stronger and more dangerous each day.

Amid secrets, betrayals, and a forbidden connection between María and Juan, both must confront not only a collapsing society, but the Rift itself-an entity that seems to watch, learn, and evolve with every human emotion.

Set across Sabadell, Premi? de Mar, and Lleida, The Rift is a gripping blend of apocalyptic thriller, psychological horror, and emotional drama. A cinematic and haunting story that asks:

What remains of us when the sky breaks open?
