A Little English Gallery by Louise Imogen Guiney

Step into a small, sunlit gallery of English letters, where the portraits are drawn in prose. Louise Imogen Guiney—poet, scholar, and devoted reader of the seventeenth century—invites us to meet the writers she loved best: poets, divines, and forgotten worthies whose lives she renders with wit, reverence, and an antiquarian's delight. First published in 1894, A Little English Gallery gathers her finest biographical essays, each one a miniature of learning and affection that makes the past feel near. This edition presents the COMPLETE, UNABRIDGED original text, faithfully reproduced, with a new introduction situating Guiney among the leading American essayists of her day and reader's notes illuminating her allusions and subjects. Whether you come for the literature, the history, or the pleasure of a singular prose voice, this gallery rewards a lingering visit. Part of The Founding Texts Library.
