CONNECTED by Aamir Chhapra

Every hotel guest has had a moment that shouldn't have been possible — a room ready before they'd finished crossing the lobby, a recommendation that felt like it read their mind, a member of staff who somehow knew what they needed before they asked. Those moments aren't luck. They're what happens when a hotel's people, technology, and data are all pointed at the same guest, at the same time.

CONNECTED tells that story through The Aurelia, a fictional five-star hotel in London, and the leaders and front-line staff who run it. Across a single year of triumphs and near-disasters, General Manager Daniel Reed and his team discover, chapter by chapter, what it actually takes to run a hotel where dozens of systems and hundreds of people are all trying to get the same thing right.

Readers follow The Aurelia through a full-scale property-management-system outage that leaves hundreds of rooms running on paper and memory, a midnight cyberattack that tests every assumption about guest data, an AI-generated recommendation that is technically accurate and humanly wrong, and the quiet cost of a note that existed in a system but was never read. Along the way, the book explains — through story, never through lecture — how a modern hotel's technology actually works, and where it belongs, and where it emphatically does not.

But CONNECTED is not a technology book. Its real subject is memory: the handful of moments a guest actually carries home from a stay, and everything a hotel must get right, invisibly, to protect them. Every system in these pages does exactly what it was built to do. None of that is ever the point. What outlasts every dashboard, process, and piece of software is one simple truth: guests don't remember the technology. They remember how it made them feel.

Written for hoteliers, hospitality technology leaders, and anyone who has ever wondered what's really happening behind a check-in that feels effortless, this is a vendor-neutral business narrative, honestly sourced, and built toward one closing philosophy that reframes the conversation about automation and service: automate what guests don't value, humanise what they remember.

Whether you run a hotel, build hospitality technology, study the industry, or simply want to understand what's really happening the next time your room is ready before you've finished checking in, CONNECTED will change how you see every hotel you walk into again.
