The Shunned House (The Complete Original Text with a Modern Introduction)

Beneath the old house on Benefit Street, something has been feeding for generations. First published in 1928 and rooted in a real Providence landmark, "The Shunned House" follows a scholarly narrator and his physician uncle as they trace a century of illness, death, and whispered legend back to a single address — and to a horror coiled in its cellar that drains the very vitality of the living. This edition presents the complete, unabridged original text exactly as Lovecraft wrote it, accompanied by a new introduction and reader's notes that illuminate the story's real Rhode Island setting, its vampire lore, and its place in the development of weird fiction. Atmospheric, patient, and quietly terrifying, it remains one of the essential early masterpieces of American horror. Whether you are returning to a classic or discovering it for the first time, this volume invites you to step through the door — and listen to what the house remembers.
