Barry Locke, half-back by Ralph Henry Barbour

First published in 1911, Barry Locke, Half-Back is Ralph Henry Barbour's spirited tale of schoolboy football at its golden-hour best. When young Barry Locke sets his heart on winning his place on the school eleven, he discovers that the road to the gridiron runs through hard practice, hard choices, and the sort of rivalry that tests character as much as muscle. Barbour, a master of the American school story, fills these pages with crisp game-day action, locker-room camaraderie, pranks and pep talks, and the enduring values of fair play, grit, and loyalty. This edition reproduces the COMPLETE, UNABRIDGED original text exactly as it appeared more than a century ago, accompanied by a new introduction and reader's notes that illuminate the author, his era, and the early days of American football. A nostalgic treat for lovers of vintage sports fiction and coming-of-age classics alike. Part of The Founding Texts Library.
