Where Sunrise Dies by Lwimba Mwalimu

Where the Sunrise Dies" is a Gothic epic of tragic descent, a holy prince of Transylvania, the Crimson Principe, defends his homeland against the overwhelming Ottoman army of the Golden Zafir. Outnumbered 50,000 to 3,300, he wages a brutal two year war within the Carpathian Mountains that transforms him from a righteous ruler into a merciless butcher known as the "Lord Impaler."

When he finally achieves victory through a pact with a demonic principality, accepting its blood and feathers for supernatural strength, he returns home only to find his beloved wife Sunrise has taken her own life, deceived by a false letter of his death. Grief-shattered, he slaughters the priests who refuse to pray for her resurrection, drinks the demon's cursed chalice, and becomes an immortal winged monster, the first vampire, cursing Transylvania to eternal darkness.

The story frames itself as a tale told centuries later by the ancient undead prince himself to a grave robber, revealing how love, war, and faith can corrupt even the most devout soul into history's greatest monster.
