Queer Little Folks by Harriet Beecher Stowe

Harriet Beecher Stowe's playful animal fables turn farmyards, forests, and insect colonies into lively stages for comedy, satire, and moral discovery. In the tale of Mrs. Feathertop, a vain young hen is mocked for her looks and doubted as a mother, only to prove her worth by hatching duck eggs and raising a brood of ducklings with devoted energy. When foolish neighbors and a pompous doctor mistake the young ducks' broad bills for deformity, the story skewers bad advice and social judgment as the ducklings ultimately thrive in the water meant for them. Other episodes follow Mr. and Mrs. Nutcracker's troublesome son Featherhead, whose laziness and pretension expose the danger of admiring empty cleverness, and Tip-Top the robin, whose fall from the nest becomes a warning about temptation and bad habits. In the insect world, Miss Katy-did's glittering party and cruel snobbery are contrasted with the warmth and usefulness of the Cricket family, while Old Mother Magpie's meddling brings chaos wherever she goes. Together, these witty tales celebrate nature, honest character, and the freedom to be oneself. This edition has been fully restored with modern typesetting, custom cover design.
