The Aether: The Admirals Daughter by F. R. Edwards

The Admiral's Daughter follows Erin from seven years old — motherless, aboard the Ebon Fang, raised by a grieving Aetherarch father and the uncle who has spent his whole life being the steady hand at Grohl's shoulder — through nine years of growing up in a Navy that fast-tracks her the way it fast-tracks anyone gifted enough to be useful. A precocious midshipman with a blade in each hand and no patience for firearms. A senator's son with a habit of not reseating what he opens. A crewman who mistakes correction for cruelty and never quite lets it go.

Erin grows up fast because the fleet asks her to, and faster still because of what's coming for her — a threat assembled quietly, over years, by people who were never supposed to have the chance.

This is the story of a childhood spent between grief and greatness, and of the sixteen-year-old girl who walks onto a training field one morning fully trained, fully loved, and utterly unprepared for the one lesson no one could have taught her.
