John Carter of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs

John Carter of Mars is the eleventh and final volume of Edgar Rice Burroughs’s celebrated Barsoom series. The collection brings together two connected adventures featuring John Carter, Warlord of Mars, and his allies as they confront new dangers on the extraordinary red planet. In the opening story, Carter becomes involved in a dangerous conflict surrounding the mysterious Horoscope, a vessel associated with a perilous journey and a threat to the people of Barsoom. The second story, John Carter of Mars, follows Carter as he faces further intrigue and danger while attempting to protect those he loves. Together, the stories revisit the familiar Martian landscape of ancient cities, rival nations, aerial ships, strange creatures, sword-wielding warriors, and advanced technologies. Burroughs combines relentless action with romance, humor, suspense, and imaginative science fiction. The book also highlights Carter’s enduring qualities—courage, loyalty, determination, and a willingness to risk everything for his friends and family. As the concluding entry in the Barsoom saga, John Carter of Mars provides a final glimpse into the richly imagined world that made Burroughs one of the pioneers of planetary romance.
