Infinite Intruder by Alan Edward Nourse

In a future still haunted by atomic war, engineer Roger Strang works at Barrier Base, a desperate defense project guarding North America from another catastrophe. His uneasy family life is shattered when his young son David is apparently attacked, first in a suspicious traffic incident and then in a brutal ambush outside the Base. Roger insists the danger is real, but Security chief Morrel dismisses him, and even his old friend Martin Drengo seems unable to help, deepening the atmosphere of paranoia and dread. When masked intruders strike again, Roger is drawn into a nightmare of pursuit, arrest, and interrogation. National Security chief Whitman claims Roger's identity records are false and that his entire past may be fabricated. After brutal psych treatment, Roger's memories begin to fracture, and he starts to suspect his life has been rewritten. Then Ann appears through a time portal and reveals the truth: Roger has been pulled from the future, where Earth is at war with Mars and America is under attack. At a hidden resistance base in ruined New Albany, Roger learns the impossible: the Dictator leading the war is Farrel Strang, his own son. The rebels have tried to alter history by targeting Farrel's lineage and implanting Roger with false memories, but their efforts may have failed. As the war escalates and the future proves resistant to change, Roger seizes one last desperate hope: to move forward in time and kill Farrel before it is too late.
