A Tale of Two Congos by D. Francis Gutman

Deep in the equatorial heat, amidst the entangled canopy of the jungle, the legendary Buck Naked General stood as a primordial force of defiance. Clad only in his ceremonial grass skirt and traditional fiber anklets, with crisscrossing bandoliers heavy with ammunition resting against his chest, he cradled his M60 machine gun like an infant. Flanked by two elite soldiers wearing standard camouflage gear and holding AK-47s with fierce, unyielding resolve, he embodied a desperate, mythic crusade. His mission was absolute: to violently and passionately unite the two Congos into a single, indivisible sovereignty against the encroachment of modern chaos.

Watching from the suffocating humidity of the sidelines were two fatigued journalists, their clothes damp with sweat and notebooks clutched tightly in hand. As the general roared rallying cries and gestured wildly with his heavy weaponry, the reporters frantically scrawled every detail, acutely aware they were documenting history teetering on the edge of a razor. Every snapshot, every jotted phrase captured the madness and the tragic grandeur of a warlord trying to force a fractured land back together by sheer, terrifying force.
