Keep Your Medicaid in 2027 by Elliot Harrowfield

**Medicaid rules are changing in 2027. If the new work and community-engagement requirements apply to you, understanding the rules before a notice or renewal arrives can help you avoid preventable coverage problems.** *Keep Your Medicaid in 2027* is a practical, plain-English guide for people trying to understand the new Medicaid work, reporting, verification, and community-engagement requirements without struggling through pages of regulations. Beginning in 2027, certain adults may need to demonstrate qualifying work, community service, education, job training, earnings, or another approved form of community engagement. But the widely discussed “80-hour Medicaid work requirement” is only one part of the new system. **Not every Medicaid beneficiary is subject to the requirement.** This guide begins with the question that matters most: **Does the requirement actually apply to you?** From there, you will learn how the federal framework works, what your state may decide, which activities may qualify, what exclusions or exceptions may be available, what records to keep, and how to respond if Medicaid asks you to verify your status. Inside the book, discover: • Who may be affected by the 2027 Medicaid community-engagement requirements • How the 80-hour monthly requirement generally works • How employment, community service, job training, and education may qualify • How the monthly earnings pathway works • What half-time education can mean for Medicaid compliance • How parents and caregivers may be treated under the new rules • Important provisions involving pregnancy, disability, medical needs, veterans, Medicare, foster care, Tribal status, SNAP, TANF, treatment programs, and recent incarceration • The difference between an exclusion, deemed compliance, and a hardship exception • Why your state may be able to verify some information without asking you to report it manually • How to build a simple Medicaid documentation file • How to track work, school, training, volunteer activity, and irregular schedules • What gig workers and self-employed workers should consider • What to do when your circumstances change during the month • How Medicaid renewals are also changing for certain adults in 2027 • How to read and respond to a verification notice • What to do if Medicaid denies or terminates coverage • How fair-hearing and appeal procedures may help when a decision appears incorrect The book also includes practical tools you can return to when you need them, including a Medicaid applicability worksheet, monthly community-engagement log, documentation checklist, state implementation worksheet, verification-response template, basic fair-hearing request template, glossary, and guide to official government sources. **You do not need to memorize Medicaid regulations. You need to know what applies to you, what evidence matters, what deadlines to watch, and what your next step should be.** Whether you are a Medicaid beneficiary, parent, caregiver, student, gig worker, seasonal worker, advocate, or family member helping someone manage their benefits, *Keep Your Medicaid in 2027* provides a clear roadmap for navigating one of the most important Medicaid eligibility changes in years. **Be informed. Be prepared. Keep good records. Protect your coverage.** *Independent consumer guide.
