The Aether: Myst by F. R. Edwards

She calls herself Myst, because it's the only word that fits the nothing she's made of. What she carries instead of a past: a sword she somehow knows how to use, a uniform that means something she can't name, and a pull — quiet, constant, directional — toward a place and a person she has never consciously met.

On the streets of Verath, she finds a sister in Kyra, a fellow survivor with nothing and no one, and the two of them build a life out of scraps and loyalty while that pull keeps tugging Myst toward a warship called the Ebon Fang — and toward a grief-hollowed Admiral who has spent years holding on to something he was never supposed to be able to let go of.

Neither of them knows what they are to each other. Both of them are about to find out.

Myst is the story of a girl built from nothing finding her way back to everything — and of a father who has to lose his daughter one more time before he can finally have her back.
