Curly and Floppy Twistytail by Howard Roger Garis

Curly Twistytail and his piggie family live cheerfully and civilized at the edge of the woods, but adventure keeps finding them anyway. From the moment two brothers quarrel over a path and one earns his curled tail after a black bear mishap, the Twistytails plunge into a string of comic dangers: a candy-store mix-up, a puppy-dog chase, a fox who tries to make Baby Pinky into a pork pie, and a washing-day rescue that sends Curly floating skyward in a pillowcase balloon. Each escapade turns on courage, quick thinking, and family teamwork. Curly and Flop outwit a wolf by hiding in a pumpkin, are saved by a resourceful mousie girl from an alligator man, and repay kindness with friendship and gratitude. Even errands for eggs or bread become lively woodland trials, while Mamma Twistytail, Grandfather Squealer, and Jackie Bow Wow add warmth and humor. Playful, suspenseful, and full of animal mischief, these tales celebrate sibling loyalty, cleverness, and the surprising power of small helpers.
