Packed Light, Thought Heavy (Giving My Self to the Wind Volume 2)

Packed Light, Thought Heavy is a collection of poetry and reflective prose that explores travel, language, aging, and the quiet revelations found in ordinary moments. Moving between Ireland and Scotland, memory and observation, wit and tenderness, Kathryn Atkins invites readers into a world where a suitcase can be light, but the inner life is anything but.

With humor, curiosity, and an unpretentious voice, these poems and short reflections examine how we move through the world—what we carry with us, what we leave behind, and what asks to be forgiven. The collection plays joyfully with language, offering linguistic experiments alongside lyrical travel impressions, philosophical musings, and moments of gentle self-reckoning.

Rather than presenting answers, Packed Light, Thought Heavy offers companionship. It speaks to readers navigating midlife and beyond, to travelers who find meaning in observation as much as destination, and to anyone seeking creativity, presence, and perspective in a noisy world. Thoughtful without being heavy, playful without being slight, this book celebrates aging, curiosity, and the art of paying attention.

Perfect for readers who enjoy accessible poetry, reflective nonfiction, and poetic travel writing, Packed Light, Thought Heavy is an invitation to slow down, notice more, and carry what matters most.

Packed Light, Thought Heavy is the second volume in the author’s Giving My Self to the Wind series of poetry and reflective writing.
