Berenice by Edgar Allan Poe

A recluse violates the grave of his epileptic cousin in a fugue state, driven by a fetishistic compulsion he cannot control. He awakens covered in mud, a small box on his table containing the gruesome trophies of his obsession. The story is a shocking glimpse into a mind fractured by monomania, where love warps into a hideous act of desecration.
