The Hero of the People: A Historical Romance of Love, Liberty and Loyalty by Alexandre Dumas

Return to the Paris of 1789, when bread is scarce, rumors fly, and a kingdom stands at the edge of the greatest upheaval in its history. In The Hero of the People, Alexandre Dumas — the master storyteller of The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo — turns his genius to the French Revolution itself. Through the eyes of Ange Pitou, a young Norman shepherd caught up in events far larger than himself, and the brilliant physician Gilbert, Dumas dramatizes the fall of the Bastille and the birth of a new age, blending love, loyalty, and liberty with breathless adventure. This edition presents the complete, unabridged original text, faithfully reproduced, together with a new introduction and reader's notes that illuminate the history behind the romance. Ideal for lovers of classic historical fiction and students of revolution alike. Part of The Founding Texts Library.
