Children of the Whirlwind by Leroy Scott

First published in 1925, Children of the Whirlwind sweeps readers into the tenements, dance halls, and shadowed back streets of New York's Lower East Side, where a young gangster finds his loyalties tested by love, conscience, and the code of the gang. Leroy Scott, a seasoned newspaperman turned novelist, writes with a reporter's immediacy and a reformer's heart, capturing an America of street wars, uneasy alliances, and hard-won second chances. This edition presents the complete, unabridged original text, faithfully reproduced, together with a new introduction and reader's notes that illuminate the novel's real-world setting in the gang-era New York of the 1920s and the career of an author who spent a lifetime writing about labor, crime, and the city. Whether you are meeting a forgotten classic for the first time or returning to an old favorite, this sturdy, handsome volume opens a doorway into a vanished world. Part of The Founding Texts Library.
