A Heart-Song of To-day (Disturbed by Fire from the 'Unruly Member'): A Novel by Annie G. Savigny

First published in Toronto in 1893, A Heart-Song of To-Day is a Victorian romance with a warning woven into its very title: the 'unruly member' of the Epistle of James — the tongue — whose careless fire can scorch a life. Within these pages, drawing-room conversations, whispered misunderstandings, and a single ill-chosen remark ripple outward through the world of late-nineteenth-century Canadian society, testing love, reputation, and faith in one another. Savigny writes with the warmth, wit, and moral seriousness of her era, offering modern readers a window onto the courtship customs, social anxieties, and domestic ideals of the 1890s — and a timeless reminder that words, once spoken, cannot be recalled. This edition presents the COMPLETE, UNABRIDGED original text, faithfully reproduced, with a new introduction and reader's notes illuminating the author, her milieu, and the novel's scriptural and cultural references.
