How Romans 9-11 Declares: God is Good by Caleb Bulow

Is God Truly Good? Unpacking the Hardest Chapters in Romans

Are you tired of reading Romans 9–11 through the lens of pre-determined theological systems?

For centuries, Christians have debated these chapters, struggling to reconcile their themes of election and wrath with the goodness of God. Passages about God's sovereign election, the hardening of hearts, and Israel's rejection of the Messiah seem—at first glance—to challenge the goodness we know and long for in our Creator. How can a good God choose Jacob over Esau before birth, harden Pharaoh to display His power, or cause His covenant people to stumble?

This book is not another abstract theological treatise. It is an invitation to walk through Romans 9–11 with fresh eyes, setting aside the fray of theological controversy to faithfully trace the progression of Paul's reasoning. By focusing on the coherent thought flow from one paragraph to the next, it reveals that these chapters form a unified message designed to clarify—not conceal—the goodness of God, who turns even human rebellion into the pathway of mercy for the world.

If you've ever wrestled with Romans 9–11 and wondered whether God's ways can truly be called good, this book offers a clear, biblically grounded path forward—one that leads straight to Paul's doxology: "Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!"
