The Veil Beneath Us by Lee Hill, Ariel B Baker

Memphis, 1999. The turning of the millennium stirs more than human anticipation. Behind the city's shadows, the Veil between worlds is weakening, and an ancient hunger presses against its edges. Fate and secrets of their own pull together five women. Daire, a warder with silver-black locks and ancestral magic. Riven, a stoic warrior carrying scars of forgotten battles. Isolde, fierce and fey-touched, her loyalty as sharp as her blade. Bram, a barbarian whose rage burns brighter than her wounds. And Zara, the Veilwalker, returned from the other side with truths even she doesn't fully understand. To reach the Silent Scholars, keepers of forbidden knowledge, they must face trials of body, spirit, and shadow. But every step closer to the mountain also draws the darkness nearer. The Veil Beneath Us is a tale of resilience, unspoken bonds, and the cost of walking where light and shadow meet.
