The Witch-cult in Western Europe by Margaret Alice Murray

Margaret Alice Murray was a British Egyptologist and the first woman to be appointed Lecturer in Archaeology at University College London. *The Witch-cult in Western Europe* (1921) is her controversial anthropological thesis — that the European witch-trials of the Late Middle Ages and Early Modern period were the persecution of the surviving worshippers of an ancient pre-Christian fertility cult.
