Something Wicked This Way Hums by Jennifer Lamont Leo

The year is 1918, and while the Great War rages in Europe, the ladies of the Rocky Mountain Meadowlarks Ladies' Chorale and Knitting Society wage their own battles over musical solos and sock-knitting supremacy. When reluctant alto Amanda Parrish is coaxed back into the choir, she expects the worst of her troubles to be keeping time while juggling sheet music and knitting needles. But after an acerbic soprano is found strangled with yarn meant for soldiers' socks, Amanda must unravel a mystery that hits dangerously close to home.

With her beloved niece Molly becoming a prime suspect, Amanda knows she has to act fast. But investigating isn't easy when many townspeople had reason to silence the victim. Between sorting through small-town secrets and keeping her flourishing music shop running, Amanda barely has time to process her growing feelings for Sheriff James Holcomb—feelings complicated by memories of his late wife, Sarah, who was once Amanda's dear friend.

With help from her observant cat, Moxie, and Molly's inside knowledge of choir politics, Amanda races to help the authorities catch a killer before another voice is silenced permanently. But in a small town where everyone has secrets to protect and the war has frayed nerves raw, even a simple song can strike a deadly chord.

Something Wicked This Way Hums is the second installment in the delightful Music Shop Mysteries series. This cozy historical mystery delivers the perfect blend of small-town charm, musical intrigue, and the bittersweet complications of love after loss.
