Mom on Wheels by PhD Marjorie Aunos

Today is a pretty good day to die.

That was Marjorie Aunos' thought as her car hit black ice and spun toward an oncoming truck. Unable to feel anything below her neck, she pictured her sixteen-month-old son-and decided to live.

A psychologist and single mother who had spent her career advocating for parents with disabilities, Marjorie suddenly found herself confronting those same barriers after a spinal cord injury.

Rebuilding her life meant facing trauma, pain, and a shattered vision of perfect motherhood-and learning to extend herself the same compassion she had always offered others.

She might parent differently, but she already knew how to be a good mother.
