Toby the Tugboat’s Big Job by Donald Yates

Toby the Tugboat's Big Job — Book Description

Meet Toby, a little tugboat with a big heart who lives in a busy harbor filled with enormous ships, hardworking boats, and exciting adventures. Toby loves his harbor home, but sometimes he wishes he were bigger and stronger.

One day, Toby gets the chance to help guide a huge cargo ship safely to the dock. Proud of what he has accomplished, Toby begins to realize that even a little tugboat can do important work.

But Toby's biggest challenge is still ahead.

When a sightseeing boat becomes stranded near the harbor entrance, strong winds and growing waves put its frightened passengers in danger. Toby knows they need help, but as he looks at the towering waves, he suddenly feels very small.

Remembering Captain Harbor's encouraging words—"Everyone has an important job"—Toby finds his courage and heads into the rough water. With determination, teamwork, and a strong towline, Toby refuses to give up as he works to bring the stranded boat and its passengers safely home.

Soon the harbor is filled with cheers and happy horns: TOOT! HONK! TOOT!

Toby the Tugboat's Big Job is a colorful and heartwarming adventure created especially for young children. Through Toby's exciting day at the harbor, children discover that being small doesn't mean you can't accomplish big things.

With friendly characters, exciting boats, playful sounds, and an encouraging message about courage, perseverance, helping others, and believing in yourself, Toby's adventure makes a wonderful read-aloud story for parents, grandparents, teachers, and young readers.

At the end of his busy day, Toby finally understands something very important:

Little tugboats can have very big jobs.
