The Teach Like an Ally Workbook by Flint Del Sol

Transform allyship theory into daily practice with real strategies for supporting LGBTQ+ students

With 80% of transgender adults reporting negative school experiences and LGBTQ students five times more likely to miss class, educators need practical tools. The Teach Like an Ally Workbook: Allyship in Action for Educators and School Communities, by transgender educator and advocate Flint Del Sol, provides actionable exercises to help teachers, administrators, and parents confidently support LGBTQ+ youth.

Through real conversations with educators across grade levels, readers work through complex scenarios like navigating parent conversations about gender identity, handling staff conflicts, and planning inclusive events. The workbook introduces the Gender Continuum, an innovative self-exploration tool, and includes case studies, reflection questions, journaling prompts, and surveys for direct application to professional contexts.

Readers will also find:
Guidance on understanding and tracking local laws and policies affecting LGBTQ+ students as they change Interactive exercises adapted from actual gender assessments to deepen understanding of student experiences Real transcripts from coaching conversations with educators navigating challenges at every grade level Practical tools including lesson outlines, unit maps, conversation starters, and checks for understanding Strategies for Professional Learning Communities, administrator work groups, and parent advocacy organizations
Perfect for teachers, administrators, parents, and anyone educating LGBTQ+ students, The Teach Like an Ally Workbook offers the next step beyond rainbow flags and pronoun pins, equipping educators with flexibility and emotional regulation skills to keep student needs central. It’s also an ideal companion resource for Del Sol’s Teach Like an Ally: An Educator's Guide to Nurturing LGBTQ+ Students.
