Aircraft and Rocket Propulsion and Gas Turbine Engines by Ahmed F. El-Sayed

The new third edition of Aircraft and Rocket Propulsion and Gas Turbine Engines serves as a definitive resource for understanding the principles and advancements in propulsion systems. This updated edition provides a comprehensive overview of essential topics, including the conceptual design of various aircraft engines, such as turbofan and turboprop engines, and industrial gas turbines. It also introduces cutting‑edge developments in artificial intelligence applications and sustainability considerations, reflecting the technologies shaping the future of aerospace engineering.

Key features of this edition include an exploration of the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in airbreathing engines, the integration of jet and rocket propulsion engines to enhance performance, and the latest advancements in internal combustion engines for small airplanes, airships, and drones. Readers will also find detailed insights into piston, ramjet, and turboshaft engines used in helicopters, along with innovative electrical and hybrid propulsion systems. This book also emphasizes the importance of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and its adoption in airliners to achieve zero emissions by 2050.

As with the previous editions, this book is designed to equip students and professionals in aerospace, aeronautical, and aviation engineering with a solid foundation in aircraft and rocket propulsion, as well as in the design of gas turbines for aviation and industrial applications.

To further support learning, this textbook is complemented by online resources. These include figure slides, an examination supplement, and a solutions manual that offers a complete set of exams to assist instructors in selecting examination material tailored to their courses.
