The Herald of Autumn by JM Guillen

Every autumn he wakes remembering nothing. This year, he woke remembering everything.

Tommy Maple isn't a man - he's a season given flesh. Each year he's born naked in the woods with the turning leaves, wandering fresh into the world with no memory of his thousand-thousand lives before. But this year, before autumn even dawns, Old Man Coyote finds him weak on the ground, speaks his true Name, and drags him fully awake before his season has even begun.

The trickster wants a favor: something is loose in the north woods, birthing horrors that shouldn't exist - hollow, ravenous things that devour glamour, memory, and the very stories that hold the world together. Coyote has already run from it once. Now he needs a hunter.

Tommy is the Herald of Autumn, harbinger of frost and the Wild Hunt, and monsters are supposed to fear him. But this darkness feeds on everything he is, and something colder still is watching from the shadows - silent men with no faces, hunting hunters like him.

To stop what's coming, Tommy will have to bargain with an ancient trickster he can't trust, wield a bow strung with story and sunlight, and risk becoming the very harbinger of ruin he was born to hold back.

The Herald of Autumn is the first book in JM Guillen's Echoes of the Untold Age, a mythic urban fantasy woven from folklore and cosmic dread, set in the sprawling multiverse of The Paean of Sundered Dreams.
