Some rooms are never meant to be empty. And some hotels remember what we tell them to forget.
Maya Ortiz runs hotels with the same detached, meticulous competence she applies to her own life. When she accepts a temporary position managing the historic Hotel Calvaire in New Orleans' French Quarter, her goals are simple: fix the plumbing, manage the staff, and increase the low occupancy rates.
But Suite 412 is ruining her perfectly organized ledgers.
The honeymoon suite hasn't been booked in weeks, yet every Thursday morning, Maya finds it in a state of chaotic disarray: overturned champagne flutes, stripped bedsheets, and a single, freshly cut gardenia placed on the floor. When Maya discovers her estranged sister Elena's expired passport hidden behind the suite's radiator, a simple hotel anomaly turns into a terrifying personal nightmare.
Elena has been missing for days. For three years, she has been trapped in a marriage to Garrett, a wealthy investment consultant who utilizes credit alerts, GPS trackers, and hidden microphones to maintain total coercive control over his wives. As Maya digs deeper into the Calvaire's century-old walls, she uncovers a hidden "sanctuary protocol" designed to shelter women fleeing dangerous men. Elena wasn't just hiding; she had partnered with Garrett's first wife—working undercover as a hotel housekeeper—to build a devastating case against him.
But Garrett is already inside the hotel. Operating under an alias on the third floor, he has bugged the rooms, memorized the staff schedules, and turned the sanctuary into a cage. In a deadly game of cat and mouse where every phone call is monitored and every shadow hides a threat, Maya must use her knowledge of the building's infrastructure to dismantle Garrett's architecture of control before her sister runs out of time.
