Dahlia has finally made up her mind.
After three years of waiting for a married man to choose her, she sits alone in a cheap motel room with a glass of bourbon, a burned-down cigarette, and an envelope containing everything she intends to give back.
Tonight, Mark either shows up or she walks away for good.
Then his wife arrives first.
Vivian has every reason to hate Dahlia. Dahlia has spent years imagining the woman standing between her and the life she thought she wanted. Neither of them is prepared for what happens when anger, jealousy, curiosity, and attraction collide in the same motel room.
By morning, the rules have changed.
What begins as an impossible encounter draws Dahlia into Vivian's private circle of women, where relationships are complicated, loyalties are rarely simple, and nobody seems particularly interested in living by anyone else's rules.
But Dahlia soon learns that wanting someone and trusting them are two very different things.
The deeper she goes into Vivian's world, the harder it becomes to tell where desire ends and control begins. Old relationships carry unfinished business. New friendships come with warnings. And the woman Dahlia once believed was standing in her way may be far more complicated than either enemy or lover.
Dahlia came to that motel prepared to make one decision.
She had no idea how many more would follow.
